In 1955 Arnold Bode is curating the first edition of Documenta in the German town of Kassel, the war has just ended, and the town is going through an extremely convulsive period after being completely razed to the ground during the Second World War. A complex era begins which, on a global level, will be affected by reconstruction processes on several fronts: social, political, psychological, economic and within the community.

The extraordinary nature of Bode’s gesture – which will mark the beginning of the history of one of the most famous contemporary art exhibitions in the world – fits perfectly into the attempt to reconstruct a connective tissue of both social and creative order.

Sharing Our Dreaming Room intends to propose an intergenerational dialogue with several voices, a choral reflection on the themes of time and the ability to restore a creative dimension to what surrounds us. Some of the works in the exhibition were created by the artists during the months of forced cloistering within the domestic space; others are fully part of the aesthetic and conceptual investigation they have always conducted.

The exhibition is thus intended as a reflection on the creative power and proactive potential that events and current events arouse within contemporary art.
