THE TENSION OF THE SIGN | 17 Dec - 29 Feb 2012

In conjunction with the large anthological exhibition hosted at Palazzo del Duca di Senigallia, Delloro Arte Contemporanea is pleased to present the last cycle of works of Paolo Cotani at its venue in Rome.

By presenting an inedited series of sculptures made of steel frames and belts, which are connected to some of his last works such as Tensioni and Bilanceri, the exhibition path aims at showing the final moment in the research activity of the artist where the sign becomes pure tension. This kind of research had already started at the beginning of the ‘70s with the works Passaggi, Bende elastiche, Fili battuti.

These works, which were in line with the analytical research of those years, were conceived as both elementary signs and an extreme expression of the absence of pictorial spaces in the form of bandaging or imprints intertwining along the visual field and marking out the direction of the trajectory.

Indeed, in the last works, the use of steel frames on which belts are tighten identifies an inedited language, a quasi-sculptural dimension that goes beyond the bidimensionality of the surface-stretcher structure. On the evening before the exhibition opens, two private houses, usually attended by the artist, will be showing an evocative selection of his works.
